Do you have a disabled person in your life? If so you know how important it is for them to have their independence and to be mobile.
We were out shopping a couple of weeks ago and this really nice van pulled up and parked in a handicapped parking spot. The side door opened and a man in a wheelchair got out of the van. I really think it's great that even though this man could not walk he was able to get out and get around. He didn't seem to let his handicap slow him down.
I'm guessing that you just can't go to a dealership and buy a van that would fit your special needs. I found out there is a special association called NMEDA that helps special needs people get vehicles equipped for their needs.
NMEDA is a non-profit trade association. NMEDA does not sell anything. They promote safe driving and equipment for disabled people. The members of NMEDA are required to adhere to the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
NMEDA dealers are who sell handicap vans and cars modifications for disabled people. There is also Quality Assurance Program (QAP) dealers. They are a nationally recognized accreditation program for the adaptive mobility equipment industry.
If you are looking for a NMEDA dealer go to NMEDA.org enter your zip code or state to find one near you. I did this and we have 3 right here in our area. With the right modifications independence and being mobile can happen no matter what your disabilities are. Their is no better feeling for a disabled person then to have his or her independence.
